Student slaves to loans

I agree with you completely to me it is depressing to think about having to go to school then getting a job and spending who knows how much time just working to play off the loans that accumulated during school. It not something people can look forward too and that probable adds to the low graduation rate.

Your argument is very simple and straight forward and completely right. Even though college students might have to eventually get a loan after doing a smart move and going to a community college I think it feels better to know that you are at least playing back less then if you would of just started in a four year college. Meaning that you can get to making money and living your life after college, instead of making money for paying off your college.

I like that you not only use data to support your argument but also use personals experience and a personal solution which in my mind too is a good one. I find that it is pretty insane that college is only getting harder to attain for most people yet the state of Texas and many other want to keep cutting college student aid and other things that would help college students get a degree. It not right to feel like slaves just working to pay off loans.

Higher proposed math standers

When I saw the title of this article New Math Standards Get Blowback from Business Community
I was really happy I though to my self yes Texas is going to raise there math standers. This is a good thing for every one despite what k-12 might say. I really think that math is a curriculum that many people that I have known struggle with, most of my friends and even my cousin have said that there worst subject is math. I feel like that not right, math is used for so much in most workplaces. Maybe not as much if you are going into the arts, but even then you still need to know how to do your taxes and how to pay the bills.
So higher math standers it a good thing but as the article explains that the proposed standers by the Texas state board of education might even be lower then the standers we have now. I really don’t understand what just happen on that one. Texas is one of the five states that has not adopted the national common core curriculum standards, and instead opted to create its on standers thinking that we can create a more personal and greater stander for math and other subjects. That I don’t have any problem with, what right for others might not be right for you so I don’t see why you cant create standers that are right for your people. But what I do have a problem with is the fact that the standers they crate are critically lacking in math. What creating your own standers brings to my mind are privet schools, they usually make those things harder to give a challenge. Its not good for anyone to make lower remedial standers. Having people who are being taught in lower standers does not help those people compete for jobs, does not help them go further then the previous generation. Lower standers in education are likely to lead to lower standers in every other field.
I agree with stopping this proposal and with what the business community is saying.

Blog Stage 6

I agree with the points that Ms.Thomas came up with. We should do more for water in our state because really we are in a desert and to think we can keep green lawns is incredible selfish. I especially agree with the re-thinking of what crops we grow, to grow something like you said rice witch would mean using a lot of water is absolutely ridicules. Also to mandate farmers to use up money for absolutely nothing is something I can not really believe. I know what you are saying is true, but it feels like the state of Texas is doing all that it can to use up the water, and help no one in the process.
I completely agree with your argument it is something that must be done and you put up some great ideas of how to do it, you also show where you get it from and use good logic to show that what we have and are tying to do it not really the most reasonable thing we could be doing. I really think that was great, but I would like to see maybe something substantial. Like if there was any bill or government program that was starting to move to that goal of regulating water in Texas. This is only my preference the argument is still solid with out this. I just think it would of added something nice that would of stayed with the reader.

Blog Stage Four

On Thursday, March. 22, 2012, The Burntorange report Blog Posted an article about how health insurance care should cover all issues including pre-existing conditions. And that no loopholes to try and get out of this essential care should be tolerated. The article focuses on a video about Jackson, an 1 and a half year old boy who was denied coverage for ear infection, due to a claim of pre-existing conditons.

The intended audience are those of us that have health care and are concerned with the fact that you might also be denied because of a pre-existing condition or some other bs that they might make up through a loophole. The author does not really show his credibility. So for the most part we can not believe him but then again the author does not really say much he let the video do the talking, and we can not normally trust a youtube video but this one was posted by the Obama channel so it is legit maybe. I do not see his argument as being the video I see that as a support to his argument so in the definition I think the author does a poor job at arguing his claim that is no loopholes and health insurance should cover all issues. Apart from just the video he does give us some factual information about a health care act that affects this. But the main reason I think his argument was poor was because he does not elaborate on the video or the information he does not interact with any of this, the author only presents it to us. The evidence is the video and it does a very good job at using emotional appeal and the only logical appeal is from the doctor's letter. I agree with his argument but I still think it apart from the video is a weak one. The logic of this is something that many of us will agree with because it is something that benefits us a lot and it just seams fair for insurance companies to cover at least that much. So I think the conclusion is valid and the video does a very good job at using an emotional appeal to get this point thru but the author him self does not elaborate enough to actually say it was good, and convincing.

College admissions

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, The Austin American Statesman published an article on how a white student who applied for admission was denied because of race. The UT freshman addmission go as follows, 81% of the freshman class graduated in the top 10 percent, these slot are only judge by class rank not anything else. leaving only about 1,200 slots available for students outside the top 10 percent. There were an estimated of 16,000 students competing for those 1,200 slots. The reason for this lawsuit is because she says that she was more deserving of that slot then a minority who got it because of race being a factor in those 1,200 slots.

The intended audience of this artical are students that are applying to any college not just UT. Mainly those that will be effected by the fact that their race might be the critical factor in whether they are addmitied and not as much their grades. This commonly applies to whites more often then other races but it could end up being that a college has a large amount of ethnic applicants and be the other way around. This author sound credible. The reason i believe that is because even though they are trying to prove a point they are still reasonably objective. Giving lots of information on the subject and bringing alot of points from both sides. Also at least for me i did not know if they were for or against affirmative action untill the end of the artical.(affirmative action; Is to take factors including race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group.) The claim of this artical is very good and is supported by factual information. It makes sence and it logical and it really convinced me.

$22 flat fee on electricity

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, The Austin American Statesman published an article about an energy proposal to raise rates which would charge a $22 flat fee for all customers. The problem over this is whether the rate increase proposal spreads the higher costs unfairly ammong the diffrent income households. The idea behind the $22 fee is to remove the pressure to sell electricity, allowing the utility to promote conservation. But critics say it would not help conservation as much as Austin Energy says and point to utility calculations showing that someone living in a small apartment would probably see their average monthly bill rise 41%. The other problem witht the energy saving plan is that unlike building a powerplant that would take effect instantly this plan would be for the long run. So what might end up happening is that Austin Energy might not be able keep up witht the growing demand for energy that the population will need.
